Merrimack NH Irrigation Company Promotes Water Conservation

The town of Merrimack, New Hampshire has instituted a water ban for residents using town water because of the current drought. Homeowners with wells are encouraged to scale back on their outdoor water usage also.

In response to the water ban, Dave Raisanen of Raisanen Landscaping is offering a free irrigation inspection for any home owner in the greater Nashua, NH area until August 15th. The inspection includes troubleshooting problems such as pressure loss, over-watering, and and locating broken irrigation heads. Raisanen’s irrigation tech will also make adjustments to sprinkler heads and adjust watering times as needed, at no cost.

"A properly programmed irrigation system actually conserves water, as opposed to moving a sprinkler around the yard" Raisanen commented. "Irrigation controllers can be programmed a variety of ways to give a lawn the exact amount of water it needs without waste. Some watering bans allow for watering on odd or even days, and many controllers have a setting to accommodate this schedule"

Raisanen continues, "It appears we are entering into a dry cycle. The rain and snow in the past few years has replenished the water reserves that were depleted in the drought of 2001 and 2002. We want to be sure to conserve what we have through responsible water usage"

A landscape that receives adequate water is healthier and requires less chemicals to treat insect and weed problems. Once soil has had a chance to dry out, it is difficult for the ground to absorb moisture. A measured, daily application of water to lawn and plant material is, in the long run, good for the environment.
